KME PTO Blog Blast 9/30/13

Here is your weekly update of all of the KME PTO happenings!!

PTO Meeting Tomorrow!!

Please join us tomorrow, Tuesday, 10/1, at 6:30 pm in the Media Center for our monthly PTO meeting. This meeting brings us a special guest speaker -- Lt. Patrick Strausbaugh from the Deerfield Fire Department. He will be discussing fire safety and provide a special demonstration on how to use a fire extinguisher. We hope to see you there!

Box Top Collection -- Through October 28th

It's time for our first of three Box Top Collection Drives!! The PTO is sponsoring a contest to see which class can collect the most Box Tops from now until October 28. The class with the most Box Tops collected will receive a mini-carnival (complete with bounce houses!) and that class's teacher will receive a $25 gift card.

It is so easy to help! Just clip out the Box Top label off of participating products and either glue to the sheet sent home in the Friday folders or you can just collect them in zip loc bags. Please be sure that the bags or the sheet contain your child's name and their teacher's name. Last year, we raised $2299 with this program -- let's beat that goal this year!!

Mileage Club

Time to get some exercise during recess! Our fall session of the Mileage Club is starting on Wednesday, October 2nd. Children will have the opportunity to walk or run around the "official" path during recess -- for each lap they complete, they will receive chances to earn tokens and perhaps win a bike!

Mileage Club is always looking for adult volunteers. If you are interested, please contact Kim Renzenbrink at skrenz@msn.com.

Many Thanks!

  • Our annual Walk-A-Thon was completed last Friday afternoon. All had a wonderful time and it was such a lovely day to be out getting fresh air while raising money for the PTO! A special thanks to Jennifer Adams, Erin Deutsch and all of the parent volunteers who worked to make this event a success. As a reminder, there will be a KME Skate Night at Skatetown USA on October 9 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm -- the admission is free for all KME students!!

  • This week, all Kings Mills Elementary students participated in the Crystal Clear Science Program “The Science of Everyday Life”. With the help of Kings high school volunteers and the program facilitators, the children got to observe experiments using everyday household materials – from kitchen ingredients to car parts! Thanks to Jenny Circello and  our PTO Program Committee for planning these fun and educational events.

Reminders

  • Please donate any new or gently used games and puzzles (please ensure that they have all of the pieces) to the KME PTO. We are collecting these items for use for indoor recess.
  • The Columbia Intermediate School Skiing Club is about ready to start! This year, children from the elementary schools are invited to join. For more details, please contact Sara Legault at slegault@kingslocal.net.
  • Be on the lookout for your child's "Art To Remember" packet. This is a great opportunity to order products made from your child's art while supporting our art education! Please contact Katie Heagen with any questions at kheagen@kingslocal.net.

Give with Target: Vote for KME!

Your vote makes a big difference to our school!

Visit GiveWith.Target.com to vote for our school.

This year, Target will give money to schools all over the country for one simple act: a vote. Our school needs just 25 votes to earn a $25 donation from Target. But that's only the beginning. For each additional vote, our school will get $1 more. So please remember that, although the gesture is small, the rewards are potentially huge. Go to GiveWith.Target.com to vote for Kings Mills Elementary School. Voting has been extended and now closes on September 30 or until Target has given away all $5 million. And please forward this email to your friends. Vote and see rules at GiveWith.Target.com.

Thank you for supporting our school!

KME PTO Blog Blast 9/16/13

Check out all of the reminders from the KME PTO!

Picture Day

Our school picture day is tomorrow, Tuesday, September 17. Make sure that your children bring their smiles!

KME Walk-A-Thon

Time to lace up those gym shoes! The annual KME Walk-A-Thon will take place on Friday, September 27, 2013. Kindergarten will walk at 10:00 am and the other grades will walk as follows:  First Grade -- 1:30 pm; Second Grade -- 1:45 pm; Third Grade -- 2:15 pm and Fourth Grade -- 2:30 pm. We would love for you to come and join your child for the walk and if you are interested, please email Jennifer Adams at Mamajen00@yahoo.com for volunteer opportunities.

This is our largest fundraiser for the fall! Instead of selling items, we would like each child to try to raise $30. This money will go to fund all of our amazing PTO activities that we provide to your children! Last year, we raised over $12,500 and we would love to beat that for this year!!  Look for the donation envelopes that have come home -- they are due back to school by September 27, 2013.

Volunteers/Donations Needed

  • We are in need of new or gently used games and puzzles (please make sure that all pieces are included) for students to use during indoor recess. If you would like to donate, please send them to school with your child.
  • WKME is looking for some volunteers interested in helping the world of school news come to KME! Please contact Alicia Brockwell at alicia_buckley_brockwell@yahoo.com.

Give With Target

Do you want an EASY and FREE way to support KME? Target is generously donating money to schools through their "Give to Target" initiative. Please go to givewith.target.com and vote for Kings Mills Elementary!!

PTO Blast 9/6/2013

Happy Friday! Thanks to all of you who attended our first PTO meeting of the year -- it was very informative! As a reminder, our next meeting is Tuesday, October 1 at 6:30 pm in the Media Center.

Here are a few key reminders:

Room Parents

The following classrooms are still in need of room parents for this year -- Chambers, Weed, Shepherd, Kaczmarowski, Duvelius and Schriever. If you are interested, please contact Jen Christman at jchristman81@msn.com.

After School Programs

Please take the time to review all of the opportunities the children have in our After School Programs. Information can be located in the "Program" tab of the blog. For parents interested in the I-Flip tumbling class, there is an updated registration form located in this tab.

Box Tops and Kroger Plus Cards

Truly easy (and free!) ways that you can help KME PTO raise funds are to collect Box Tops and to ensure that your Kroger Plus card is registered online and linked to KME PTO. Just log on to KrogerCommunityRewards.com and follow the instructions. Please keep in mind that you need to re-register your card every year so please make sure that your card is currently registered. With only 54 families participating last year, Kroger provided us with a donation of $3,350. Let's increase this for this year!!

Save the Date!!
