KME PTO Blog Blast 2/12/2014

It's a busy time for the KME PTO -- read below to see all of the fun activities coming up!!

Extravaganza 2014

Our annual Extravaganza is coming -- Saturday, February 22 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm!! There will be so many exciting things to do at this event -- concessions, carnival games, inflatables, face painting, tattoos, cake walk, raffles (including the big baskets!!) and a silent auction. We hope to see you there!

A few things to remember about Extravaganza:

• All information for the Extravaganza can be found on our blog under the heading "Extravaganza 2014". Please check there if you have any questions or would like to learn more about the event!
• We are in need of donations for the themed baskets. Please consider donating items to your child's classroom for these baskets. If you are unsure of the theme, please click on the heading "Extravaganza 2014" on the blog.
• Remember that all of these fun activities require tickets! You can purchase tickets early (and at a discount) by completing the form that has been sent home. These forms, along with the payments, are due back to KME by Thursday, February 13. Again, they can be found under the heading "Extravaganza 2014". 
• We need volunteers! If you can help, please click on this link to see what opportunities are available -- Extravaganza Volunteers

Box Top Collection

It is time to submit Box Tops to KME!! Please turn in any Box Tops that you may have to your child's teacher by Friday, February 21. After trimming the Box Tops, you can either submit them glued to the collection sheet (sent home with your child) or you can send them in ziploc bags. Make sure that your child's teacher's name is on either the sheet and/or bags so that the teacher can get credit for these.

Again, we will be having a contest to see what class can collect the most Box Tops! The winning class will earn a pizza party!!

Jump Stop Safari

Jump Stop Safari in Lebanon, OH will be hosting a "Jump and Play Party" for the Kings School District on Friday, February 14 from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm. A fun thing to do on a day off! Our monthly PTO meeting has been cancelled for tonight -- Tuesday, 2/4. If needed, we will communicate a "make-up" date and time. Stay safe everyone!!

PTO Meeting

Our next PTO meeting will be Tuesday, February 4 at 6:30 pm in the Media Center. Children are always welcome and we hope to see you there!

Movie Knight

Please make plans to attend our next Movie Knight where we will be watching "Despicable Me 2" (rated PG)! It will be held on Friday, February 7 from 6:15 pm to 8:15 pm in the KME Cafeteria. This event will be a "Valentine's" theme so feel free to wear Valentine's colors...

The cost is $5 per student and includes a slice of pizza, drink and popcorn. For an additional $10, up to 4 family members can also receive the same concessions. There will be additional concessions for sale at the event. As a reminder, each child will need to have an adult chaperon in attendance and will also need to send the completed reservation form and payment back to KME by Wednesday, February 5. These forms have been sent home and can also be found on the blog under "Events/Fundraisers".

Extravaganza

It is Extravaganza time!!! Please mark your calendars to attend this fun-filled event -- it will be held on Saturday, February 22 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. There are so many ways that you can help make this our most successful event ever -- you can attend the event, donate items for the classroom raffle baskets, donate baked goods for the cake walk and/or serve as a volunteer in one of our many, many stations.

We have created a separate page on the blog -- "Extravaganza 2014" -- and this heading is located on the top/middle of the home page. Click on "Extravaganza 2014" to find out all of details of the Extravaganza! Also, you can click on this link if you are interested in volunteering for the event -- Extravaganza Volunteers.

After School Programs

Just a reminder that registration is due by Friday, January 24 for all of our after-school programs. There are many exciting programs to choose from -- including Drama Kids, Mad Science, Soccer Shots, Tumbling and Young Rembrandts. For more information, please go to our blog under the "Programs" tab and look for After-School Programs. The updated forms will be indicated by "2014" in the heading.

Wear Orange Day -- Changed

Due to our winter weather, this day has been moved to Friday, January 24. We will wear orange to remember Sammy Reagan and to promote awareness of the Sammy Reagan Foundation which assists various community organizations. Please have your children join us to turn KME into a sea of orange!

Kroger Rewards

As a reminder, please make sure that your Kroger Plus card is registered and linked to "Kings Mills Elementary PTO" so that we can continue to earn money for all of our school programs and events. You can call 1.866.221.4141 or go to www.kroger.com/community and look for the Community Rewards link. An easy and free way to support KME!!

Happy Friday Everyone!! Just a few reminders from your KME PTO...

Remember, there is no school on Monday, January 20 due to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. If you are in need of something to do, please consider going to Jump Stop Safari that day! Jump Stop Safari in Lebanon is offering an open play session for KME students and their families from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. For every KME student that participates, they will donate $1 to our PTO. Please click on our "Events/Fundraisers" tab on the blog to get more information about this event.

Kroger Rewards

As a reminder, please make sure that your Kroger Plus card is registered and linked to "Kings Mills Elementary PTO" so that we can continue to earn money for all of our school programs and events. Also, Kroger is featuring a "one-day-only" 4x Fuel Points for any gift card purchases made on Saturday, January 18 ONLY. Please consider purchasing any needed gift cards from Kroger that day -- to not only earn money for our school but to also earn many fuel points for you!

Due to school being closed and the extremely cold weather, we will be cancelling the KME PTO meeting tonight. Looking forward to seeing you next month!!

Movie Knight

A reminder that our Movie Knight has been moved to Friday, January 10 starting at 6:15 pm. If you had already registered for this event in December, someone will contact you to see if you are still interested in attending. If you have not registered yet, please print the registration form off of the blog (found under the "Events/Fundraisers" tab) and turn it in to your child's teacher as soon as school reopens.

The movie featured is "Rise of the Guardians" (PG) and as a reminder, children need to have an adult chaperon in attendance.

Teacher Appreciation

We are in the final stretch of gathering items needed for the teacher "classroom bags" that will be given to them on Monday morning. If you can help with any donations, please click on this link for more information -- Teacher Appreciation January 2014. Thanks for your help!!

Movie Knight

Due to the inclement weather last month, our Movie Knight has been moved to Friday, January 10!! Please check your child's backpack this week for more information or you can find the updated form on our blog under "Events/Fundraisers". The movie featured will be "The Rise of the Guardians" (PG) and it will begin at 6:15 pm. Reservations are due on Wednesday, January 8. As a reminder, each child needs to have an adult chaperon attend this event.

Many Thanks!!

We have so many volunteers to thank for all of our successful events in December!

• A huge thanks to Kim Tudor, Erin Deutsch and all of our many parent volunteers who helped organize and staff our annual Holiday Kids Shop. The children had so much fun selecting gifts for their loved ones!!
• Thanks to Angie Purcell-Hood for all of her hard work in organizing the Holiday Vendor/Craft Fair. We appreciate you doing this for our Kings families!
• Many thanks to Hazel Bloomfield, the Community Outreach committee and to all of the parents who graciously donated new coats for our coat drive. We were able to collect 26 coats (a new record!) and this was enough to not only provide KME children with warm coats but we also were able to share the rest with our other elementary schools!

A quick reminder that our big EXTRAVAGANZA is coming up in February!! Please be on the lookout for more information about this event and begin working on gathering items for your class's raffle baskets. A list of items needed can be found on the blog under "Events/Fundraisers".
